Committed to quality
Rather than bring some of their old equipment into the new practice, Matarazzo says they wanted every operatory to be equipped with the same comfortable chairs and operating systems to make it easy to switch between rooms. The doctors were accustomed to A–dec equipment and traveled to the manufacturer’s headquarters in Newberg, Ore., to make their selections.

They met with employees at all levels of the company, including their A–dec representative Ted Zeitzer and A–dec President Scott Parrish, and saw how A–dec controls every aspect of the production process, from the nuts and bolts to the upholstery on the chairs. “That trip gave us confidence and a comfort level in dealing with a highly competent and quality–oriented company,” Matarazzo said. “We were able to commit to A–dec because Patterson said, ‘We believe in this company and know they consistently deliver quality.’”
Garfinkel and Ianoale also traveled with the doctors to A–dec and helped guide their selections. “For Dr. Anita and Dr. Frank, I tried to guide them to a truly integrated, efficient and ergonomic solution for their office while maintaining a very high level of aesthetics,” Garfinkel said.
As perio–prosthodontists who see a wide range of cases, Matarazzo and Milici have been proponents of digital radiography for years. From the Schick intraoral imaging system, their next logical investment was GALILEOS 3D imaging, which they timed with the move into the new practice.
The doctors enjoy collaboration, and wanted their new office to better facilitate conversations about patient treatment as well as to improve access to patient information throughout the practice. The entire office was networked, including the break room for team discussions, doctors’ offices for joint consultations and treatment planning, and a consult room for case presentations to patients.
Each operatory was outfitted with two monitors, one for patients and one for the staff, and also features electric handpieces, ultrasonic scalers and a Sopro intraoral camera to enhance caries detection.
“Todd [Garfinkel] knew that we wanted only the best, so he always brought us what was the latest and best available, and that’s what we purchased for the office,” Milici said.
