Patterson Dental was one of several distributors that served Spodak Dental Group over the course of its history. With the size and scope of the new facility, however, Dr. Craig felt that Patterson was the only company that could handle the logistics of building, equipping and installing.

Dr. Craig contacted Patterson Dental Equipment Specialist Paul Donovan, whom he met when he joined the practice. Donovan, who has worked for Patterson for more than 25 years, agreed to facilitate Spodak Dental Group’s new building.

Donovan and Patterson Office Designer Derrick Franklin worked together to fine-tune the floor plan, ensuring that the design would also function as a dental practice.

The final layout for the practice included 15 general operatories; three oral surgery operatories and a private egress for patients under sedation; multiple sterilization centers; an onsite laboratory; and a welcoming entryway with wide corridors, multiple seating alcoves and a conference room for team education and community events.

Dr. Craig worked with Donovan to plan just as carefully for the interior equipment and technology; the tools he and the other doctors and staff would use to diagnose, plan and treat patients.

After doing some research on Midmark equipment, Dr. Craig discovered a personal connection with the company’s values and culture. “Midmark is a very strong company, culturally, and also believes in strong continued relationships with clients,” Dr. Craig said.

He selected identical Midmark equipment set-ups for each operatory and planned a central sterilization center and two sterilization “holding areas” where instruments get dropped off. Full-time, dedicated sterilization team members bring carts to these areas, retrieve the instruments and ensure the safe sanitation of instruments throughout all areas of the practice.
