The practice’s PLANMECA ProMax 3D acts as a catalyst for doctor conversations as well as imaging. “Our PLANMECA is in a public area, so all the doctors who come by stop and add their expertise, and patients get the expertise of interdisciplinary care,” Dr. Craig said.
To facilitate one-day restorations, Dr. Craig invested in CEREC Omnicam AC and CEREC MC XL, and is also hiring an onsite CEREC lab technician. “Taking care of patients’ dentistry needs in the same day is awesome,” Dr. Peterson said. “I have a patient from Brazil who I see regularly. He had a root canal and a crown in five hours!”
The big reveal
“This was the biggest project of my career – and probably the most challenging –but it was also my most rewarding project,” Donovan said. An equipment representative’s job is to not only counsel the doctor regarding financing his or her new practice or remodel, but also to be the buffer between the many people involved in bringing a new building to life.

Configuring the Midmark equipment in each operatory, Donovan and Franklin maximized the available space in the floor plan. They made sure the piping for the water and nitrous lines were the exact specifications needed to work properly. Then, the Patterson team staged all of the equipment at a warehouse a few miles from the new practice and trucked it in when the building was ready for installation. “We had service technicians from Charleston, Atlanta and Chesapeake come to help with the installation,” Donovan said.
Inside and out, the building was just as Dr. Craig specified: unique, environmentally friendly and ready to help solve patients’ dental needs in one visit. Dr. Craig submitted the building for and received LEED Certification at the Gold level from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
By the time the new facility opened in December 2013, the team had grown to include general and cosmetic dentists, oral, maxillofacial and periodontal surgeons, endodontists, medical anesthesiologists and master ceramic artists in an onsite laboratory. A general dentist by training, Dr. Craig acts like a care coordinator for his patients.
Spodak Dental Group was busy before the move, but business has been building steadily since the new facility opened. New and reclaimed patients have heard from their friends and family – or from the local media, which has highly publicized Dr. Craig and the new building – about the “one-stop shop” for their dental needs, and are eager to see it for themselves. Or they might have heard about the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce awarding Spodak Dental Group 2010-2011 Business of the Year.
For the doctors at the new facility, it’s meant improvements in their ability to treat patients and in their daily enjoyment of their profession. “We have a great team and a great collection of specialists, and it’s so nice to be able to avail myself of their services,” Dr. Myles said.
In a continually changing healthcare landscape, Dr. Craig hopes that his facility will inspire other dentists to dream big about the profession’s future and inspire patients to seek a more comprehensive treatment approach from their dental providers.
