TOTAL CONTROL
Dr. William Kisker of Dental Care of Vernon Hills used CEREC 3 several years ago as an associate, and though he was impressed by it, he was waiting for the technology to mature before he brought it into his practice in Vernon Hills, Ill.
When he experienced CEREC Omnicam in action at the March 2014 CEREC Accept event at Scottsdale Center for Dentistry in Scottsdale, Ariz., Kisker was sold. “I felt it was so easy to use and had so many indications that it made sense to buy it rather than continue to pay my lab,” says Kisker. “With CEREC, I could have total control over the outcome.”
Kisker purchased a CEREC system just two weeks later, and armed with the knowledge he gained during the Accept event, was able to get up and running immediately. “The learning curve wasn’t as much as I thought,” he says. “The technology is so intelligent and the design process does most of the work for me that I don’t have to tweak it much. I’ve found it to be much easier than even taking an impression.”

CEREC has significantly reduced the time Kisker spends prepping, and after some additional training for his assistant, he’s been able to delegate tasks such as scanning upper and lower bites, polishing and adjusting. All that’s left for Kisker to do is inject local anesthetic, prep the tooth and cement the crown.
The doctor is also very pleased with the high quality materials available today, which allow for flexibility and an array of indications, including implant abutments and temporary bridges. “No matter what you’re trying to do, you can probably do it with CEREC,” says Kisker.
His patients are smiling about the technology, too. Kisker says they’re grateful that it saves them time and alleviates the need for a temporary, plus they’re fascinated by the milling process. “Patients think it’s great,” he says. “The results are getting better all the time and we’re having fun.”
