In the original 1,600-square-foot office, the five operatories and a combined lab/sterilization center became increasingly crowded for the staff and doctors.
Dr. Jain knew he would need to move to a larger office space, but he wanted to build his practice from the ground up. “I didn’t want to settle. I wanted the practice to have the right fit and feel. Our old office was well done, but the exterior didn’t portray the image I wanted for the practice,” he said. “We were looking for a space for four or five years. When this location [in Tenafly] came along, it was in the right town, with the right amount of space and enough room to grow.”

The three-year process of building his new office began in 2009, when Dr. Jain signed a contract for land about two miles from his existing practice. He knew he would have a facility with parking underneath the second floor of the building and an elevator leading to approximately 3,200 square feet of office space. “In New York City, when people have to park two blocks from their dental office, they’re ecstatic. Here, in New Jersey, if they have to park two blocks away, they look for another dentist,” Dr. Jain said.
With those features determined, he requested that Patterson Dental and several other dental companies provide a design concept for the office space. Patterson Territory Representative Matt O’Malley introduced the doctor to Equipment Specialist Dean Merolle, who met with Dr. Jain to learn about his office design wants as well as his overall practice goals. Dean then worked with Patterson Dental Office Designer Sherry Tassavori to design an office that featured a lab separate from the sterilization center, eight operatories with dual entry, and a larger VIP operatory for Dr. Jain’s more involved cases as well as for teaching in the future.
Patterson’s design was the clear winner, Dr. Jain said. “Patterson knows their stuff. They took my wish list and put it onto paper, maximizing the space to best utilize it.”
Patterson not only took care of Dr. Jain’s office design, the team helped the doctor navigate a series of challenging building issues. For instance, the initial building contractor and project manager were replaced in the middle of the project. Thankfully, however, Dean had recommended a contractor who specializes in dental practices, guaranteeing that the interior construction phase was handled by a consistent team.
