And, when partnered with Dolphin Management software, the imaging features easily transfer between both of Dr. Dunn’s offices, allowing him and his staff to treat patients regardless of location. “I chose Dolphin because it’s the premier imaging product and I wanted imaging and management to integrate seamlessly,” he said.
At the Cottage Grove practice, staff capture images with the pan and ceph arm, and within minutes, Dr. Dunn can present results to a patient in his consultation room. Conversely, if a Woodbury-location patient has images taken at the satellite practice, Dr. Dunn has confidence that all of the information captured there will transfer accurately to the primary facility.

Dolphin trainers have visited Dr. Dunn and the staff at the new office, providing training and assistance as they get up to speed on the new technologies.
“I like that there are online webinars, too, that you can watch a la carte, whenever it’s convenient at the office,” Dr. Dunn said. “The beauty of the webinars is that there isn’t a big cost investment. We don’t have to fly staff to attend every educational opportunity.”
Dr. Dunn requires his orthodontic staff to be highly trained on the equipment and technology in the practice. “The technology can definitely challenge them, which I think is good. But when it’s cool technology like this, I think it’s fun to learn,” he said.
To enhance the two software platforms, Dr. Dunn also invested in several Dolphin Legend Series programs. The Zuelke Financial Expert program aids his practice in managing patient accounts, and payment and account collection, and informs him and his practice manager about practice performance.
The Charlene White SOS, or Systematic Office Solutions program collects compelling practice statistics for such procedures as debanding and recall numbers, and offers suggestions for improvement. “Dolphin drives everything we do in the practice,” Dr. Dunn said.
A Distinct Personality
Patients have no doubt about where they are when they walk into Dr. Dunn’s practice, and not just because of the high-tech equipment. His distinct style comes across in the bright green color used throughout the office: on the walls and furniture, the staff’s scrubs and color-enhanced canvases of photographs that he took on a recent trip to Japan. “I have always liked green. When I was designing a logo and developing a marketing plan in 2005, I knew I wanted a recognizable brand, so I picked green,” he said. “Now, you can’t turn around without seeing lime green!”
Regardless of color scheme, Dr. Dunn’s legacy is being built upon practicing in the type of facility he chose, with the equipment that he prefers. “It’s a culmination of a dream to practice orthodontics at the cutting edge and highest level possible, and to be able to treat my own patients and make sure their treatments match my standards,” he said.
