Across the board, response to the new office has been positive. Wilhovsky said the difference isn’t just noticeable in the patients, it’s noticeable in Dr. Calleros. It really is her now – it’s not just a rented space that doesn’t fit her practice. For Dr. Calleros, the response was overwhelming.

“It has the wow factor, for sure,” she said. “People love it. They always tell me this is the nicest dental office they’ve ever been in. I am very proud. The way it looks, the way it feels, the way it functions, everything that went into it. It’s a top-notch office.”
Building a Modern Office
To complete the practice and maximize the space, Dr. Calleros and her team received approval from the city to convert an existing patio into a portion of the building, which became additional space in the waiting room. All told, the facility now checks in around 1,500 square feet, with four operatories. The additional space and more intuitive layout make a big difference. “Everything’s easier,” said Dr. Calleros.
“It’s like night and day. They’re completely different. The old office had little, tiny rooms where the chair barely fits in the room. These rooms are spacious. Plenty of space for me, plenty of space for my assistant, plenty of space for the patient. We’re not tripping over each other and running into each other. We’re not knocking things over as we make a move.”
Almost all of Calleros Dental’s equipment is also new. Her computers, some handpieces and assorted supplies are about all that made the two-block trek from her old office to her new one. Well, that and all her patients.
Dr. Calleros had a vision for her operatories and she worked with her office designer to establish the theme. For the chic, modern office she wanted, she needed something different. “I wanted to use more color, so I chose that theme,” she said. “I have colorful walls and I guess it’s got more of a feminine touch. That’s not to say that men don’t love it. They like it too. Everybody likes it. Old and young. Even the kids love it.”
Her floor plan and operatory layout combined ideas from the A-dec Educational Experience trip she and her staff took to Newberg, Ore., and from the Patterson team, which also includes Equipment Specialist Thai Johns. Her operatories were largely inspired by the trip to Newberg and A-dec cabinetry consoles have made a major impact. “There’s a built-in spot for everything,” Dr. Calleros said, even gloves and paper towels.
“I didn’t think I was going to have a lot of storage space, but those cabinets; I still have space I’m not even using. I would say, ‘I don’t know where we’re going to put all this,’” she said. “Then you’d open a cabinet and it would be wide open. It’s so convenient. You can bump a cabinet with your knee and the door opens. The way they’re set up, it just makes such a difference.”
